Securitas employee, Robert Pavao, is accused of murdering Timberland marketing director Catherine “Cassie” Heppner. Now Securitas is facing a lawsuit by Mrs Heppner’s estate.
The lawsuit claims Securitas negligently hired Pavao. The allegation questions his psychological state, and they claim there were warning signs. However, Securitas stated it did not cut any corners in hiring or ignore signs Pavao was in mental distress.
According to the first-degree murder indictment, Pavao stabbed Heppner “before, after, and/or while engaged in the commission of, or while attempting to commit felonious sexual assault.”
Is the security guard service responsible for their employees’ actions? Is it right to blame the security firm? Should security guards partake in regular screening for mental health issues?
